18th century, Netherlands

The angel motif is created by stippling the glass surface with a diamond point. This "stippling" technique was widely used by skilled glass makers in the Netherlands. Very transparent glass was made in England and then sent to the Netherlands to be diamond-stippled. The pattern of two angels drinking a toast was probably modelled on a painting by David Wolff (1732-1798) or an artist of the same period.
