Myriad white particles and bubbles are included in the underlying transparent glass in this piece. Known as "snowflake glass ," this type of glass was first produced in China in the 18th century. This snowflake glass piece has been overlaid with a thick layer of copper red glass, on which jagged mountains, a castle, and halberds and banners beyond the castle wall are carved in relief. The scene also contains a close range view of a pine tree and a mounted warrior bravely brandishing his sword. This vase contains the inscription "Made in thereign of Emperor Ch'ienlung" on the bottom.
