This snowflake glass is overlaid with a thick layer of copper red glass, on which various Chinese figures are carved in relief. An example of similar motifs can be found in the tapestry entitled "One Hundred Chinese Figures" stored in the room Shenningkung within the premises of Tzuchingch`eng Palace. Such motifs have been frequently used by the Chinese as fertility symbols. The knob on top of the lid is a fused lump of red glass that has been carved in the shape of a house. The same technique is employed on the foot where red glass is carved into a ring shape.
