Muromachi period

Magnificent wild cherry trees in full bloom spread across the entire surface of this screen; in the sky is a bank of gold clouds, and below are depicted a mountain stream and moss-covered rocks. While the work has darkened over the years, it is permeated with the gay atmosphere of spring. Along the right edge is an inscription authenticating the painting as a work by "Tosa Gyobu* Daisuke* Mitsunobu", which is signed by (Tosa) Mitsuyoshi and bears his seal. A number of works quite similar to this one are known. This painting is important as an excellent example of Muromachi period yamato-e.
