Suntory Announces Launch of “PEPSI NEX”

Refuting the idea that “colas come from America”
Suntory Limited announces the nationwide launch on March 28, 2006 (Tuesday) of PEPSI NEX, its new core 2006 PEPSI line product.
As people across Japan have become more health-conscious in recent years, more and more consumers are concerned about the caloric content of the cola beverages they drink. In a step that will create a new market to meet the needs of cola consumers in today’s Japan, Suntory has developed the first original PEPSI product to come out of the Japanese market and is set to launch PEPSI NEX, a cola beverage that delivers both great taste and zero calories. The development and launch of this new product has been made possible thanks to the Suntory-PepsiCo partnership, which remains as strong as it was when first established in 1980.
• Naming
Evoking the word NEXT, the product name NEX grows out of the concept of a new generation of cola. NEX is designed to bring feelings of “new excitement,” “a new experience,” and “new expectations” to the minds of consumers.
• Taste
Suntory delivers a calorie-free cola with a refreshing, full-bodied, and zesty taste.
• Packaging
The clean lines of the packaging feature a label in silvery-white, with the sharp, electric “NEX” logo front and center.
