Our Passion for Water

Every single drop is important for all living things and it shines our daily lives.

Water moves through a timeless cycle—falling as rain,
seeping into the earth, flowing through rivers to the ocean,
and returning again.

Such a journey defines the rich experiences we aim to create.

Where Water Flows, Life Grows

Water is essential for both people and nature to thrive. As a company that depends on this vital resource, water is at the very core of everything we do.

As a beverage company deeply sustained by nature’s gifts, especially water, we have always honored its value and remain committed to ensuring its sustainability
for future generations.

Our Sustainability

Great Taste Starts with Precious Water

For more than 100 years, water has been the foundation of our craftsmanship, shaping the quality of our brands.

Our founder, Shinjiro Torii, tirelessly searched for the ideal environment for authentic whisky-making, ultimately selecting the area where the Yamazaki Distillery now stands—chosen for its exceptional water and rich natural surroundings.

This passion for water remains central to our craft. As we expand from whisky to beer and soft drinks, including Tennensui water, both domestically and internationally, our unwavering commitment to craftsmanship remains at the core, reflecting our pursuit of perfection in every brand we create.

Nature’s Gift, We Honor It

Water is one of nature’s greatest gifts - sustaining life, shaping our world, and supporting both people and the planet. Every drop is a precious gift from nature, entrusted to us to protect and preserve.

More than 20 years ago, we established the Institute for Water Science to deepen our understanding of water. We also launched the Natural Water Sanctuary initiatives and the Mizuiku - Education Program for Nature and Water to promote conservation and education. Today, we replenish more than twice the amount of water we use in Japan.

With deep gratitude and respect, we are committed to giving back this precious resource to nature and society, ensuring it is preserved for future generations.

Sustaining Water for Generations
to Come

Suntory’s dedication to water has expanded overseas, creating a ripple effect of conservation. Our efforts to protect vital water resources now extend to regions including the U.S., Scotland, Spain, France, and Mexico, further strengthening our commitment to water sustainability.

Our passion for water education has grown beyond Japan, with the Mizuiku program now reaching eight countries (as of 2024). By teaching the importance of water and fostering a deeper appreciation among future generations, we are helping to protect this vital resource. Through these expanding efforts, we remain committed to ensuring that the brilliance of water endures for years to come.

As we deepen our understanding, one principle remains clear: water is local. Each region faces unique water challenges, requiring a science-based, hands-on approach.

By collaborating with international organizations and local communities, we develop tailored conservation efforts that address specific local needs effectively.
