Suntory Hall Chamber Music Academy Concerts
at Chamber Music Garden (CMG)

Since the launch of the Academy in 2010, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi (Cello) has served as Academy Director, and has subsequently invited Koichiro Harada (Violin), Kikuei Ikeda (Violin), Wakako Hanada (Violin), Kazuhide Isomura (Viola), Hakuro Mori (Cello), and Shigeo Neriki (Piano) on board as the Coaching Faculty. To date, the Academy has produced the three members of the Aoi Trio (piano trio and first prize winner at the 2018 ARD International Music Competition Munich), Quartet Integra (string quartet and first prize winner at the 2021 Bartók World Competition), and other young chamber music artists.
Chamber Music Garden (CMG) is a great showcase for the fellows (academy members) and alumni of the Suntory Hall Chamber Music Academy. Aoi Trio, Academy alumni and winner of the ARD International Music Competition, continues with their seven-year project for the CMG, surveying all of Beethoven’s piano trios in combination with other diverse repertoire – this year’s programme includes Toshio Hosokawa’s Trio (June 8). Meanwhile, Academy fellows Quartet Integra, fresh from their win at the Bartók World Competition in October 2021, will present a thoughtful programme that includes Bartók’s masterly fifth quartet (June 6). There are also two concerts by the current Chamber Music Academy fellows (June 11, 18).

The Quartet Integra marks its fourth year while members have continued pursuing their studies at the Suntory Hall Chamber Music Academy since 2018 and has now taken a flawless first place at the Bartók World Competition for String Quartets, held in Budapest last October. In this recital, they perform their selection from the competition, Bartók’s String Quartet No. 5, which captivated the audience in Hungary.

Aoi Trio – The World of Piano Trios:
The Second Concert of the Seven-Year Project

Upon graduating from the Suntory Hall Chamber Music Academy, Aoi Trio’s members came together as a piano trio and their brilliance now resounds both in Japan and abroad since attaining victory at the ARD International Music Competition Munich. Aoi Trio have been working since 2021 on a distinctive special seven-year project offering a myriad of pieces. They play each of Beethoven's piano trios at CMG until the 2027 bicentennial of his death. 2022 marks the project’s second year, and starts with Beethoven’s vividly uplifting Piano Trio No. 2 before moving into a piece by the quintessential composer of present-day Japan, Toshio Hosokawa, as well as an outstanding secret piece to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Franck’s birth.
