Suntory Hall receives
The NHK Symphony Orchestra 46th Arima Award

Suntory Hall (SUNTORY FOUNDATION for the Arts) is proud to announce that it has been chosen as the recipient of the 46th Arima Award presented by the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo.
Suntory Hall’s close relationship with the orchestra spans 40 years; ever since the NHK Symphony Orchestra performed in the Inauguration Concert on the Opening Day of Suntory Hall (October 12, 1986), the orchestra has given numerous concerts at the hall.

Comments from the NHK Symphony Orchestra
Since its opening in 1986, Suntory Hall has hosted NHK Symphony Orchestra’s concerts and has served as a venue that has produced numerous memorable performances, thanks to its world-class acoustics. Furthermore, as Tokyo’s first concert hall dedicated to classical music, Suntory Hall has contributed greatly to the promotion of classical music and the development of musical culture, including its focus on hospitality towards the audience and musicians.

Comments from Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, the President of Suntory Hall
We are very much honoured to receive the 46th Arima Award from the NHK Symphony Orchestra. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone at the NHK Symphony Orchestra, and to the numerous people who support the hall on a daily basis.
Ever since its opening, Suntory Hall has been bringing joy to its audiences together with many musicians and orchestras including the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
Encouraged by this award, we will continue to contribute to the development of musical culture and to strive to become a concert hall beloved by all, with the most beautiful sound in the world.

About the Arima Award
The Arima Award was established in 1981 to commemorate the contributions of the late Daigoro Arima (former Vice Chairman of the NHK Symphony Orchestra) to the music world and his great achievements in developing the orchestra. The award is given to individuals, related organisations, and NHK Symphony Orchestra staff who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the orchestra.
