This is the Suntory Hakushu Sanctuary entrance. When you arrive at Hakushu Distillery, the first thing you need to do is check in at the Visitor Center. Guests may enjoy a bird’s eye view diorama of the entire Sanctuary and visit our Gift Shop.

2BIRD BRIDGE

After checking in at the Visitor Center, cross the Bird Bridge into the forest where birds live. On a clear day, the Yatsugatake Mountains can be viewed from the bridge.

3BIRD SANCTUARY

Approximately 50 types of birds visit this forest over the course of a year. In 1973, the Bird Sanctuary opened at the same time Hakushu Distillery was completed and it has been growing ever since. It is the Mountain Forest Distillery symbol as well as part of Suntory’s bird conservation activities. Take a deep breath, listen carefully, and you will hear bird calls!

4WHISKY MUSEUM

Valuable materials related to whisky from all over the world, both historical and contemporary, are stored here. Exhibits explain the history of Suntory whisky and the origin of Suntory Hakushu Sanctuary.

5HAKUSHU TERRACE

Enjoy the flavors of Suntory Hakushu Sanctuary, such as a highball with Hakushu forest breeze, juices made with locally sourced fruits, and oven-baked pizza at this restaurant. Items from the takeout menu may be eaten in the free space on the second level where you can take in the forest air to your heart’s delight.

6CENTRAL HOUSE

This multi-purpose space is open to all Suntory Hakushu Sanctuary guests. Sample whisky, select a souvenir, or simply relax. Feel free to spend time here.

TASITING LOUNGE

Guests can sample the Hakushu brand and other Suntory whiskies while overlooking the greenery beyond the large windows.

Apology Regarding an Error in the Total Amount

BAR HAKUSHU

This special bar may only be visited by guests taking part in the Hakushu Distillery reserved tour. The bar counter and decorations, from a famous bar once located in Ginza, create a relaxing atmosphere.

7DISTILLERY HOUSE

Whisky is mashed, fermented and distilled in this building. This area is only accessible to those participating in the reserved tour. Suntory whisky making is experienced with all five senses, including the fermentation aroma and the pot still heat.

8STORAGE FACILITY

The aroma of the casks and whiskies lined up in the Storage Facility is breathtaking. Hundreds of thousands of casks are aging throughout the Distillery premises. Although the reserved tour includes only one building, many more are located at the rear of the Distillery.
