On the porcelain-like opaque glass, patterns are painted in black enamel. This painting technique, known as Schwartzlot, was widely employed in Germany in the late 17th century. The motif of two stags running toward a spring is set between two acanthus wreaths. Beneath the handle, a Biblical passage is written and also the year, 1685. This is one of the few opaque glass pieces with black enamel decoration in existence today.
