The development of cristallo, clear, colorless glass resembling rock crystal, in about 1450 spurred the rise of Venetian glass. Lace glass, weaving together cristallo and lattimo, milk glass, in forms modeled on porcelains, developed in the early sixteenth century. One of the distinctive types of Venetian glass, its delicate beauty enthralled aristocrats throughout Europe. This goblet has two types of lace motifs arranged in an alternating composition. Its elegant form brims with graceful beauty as well.
