This set includes three saké cups and a cup stand. Probably used on festival occasions, they are decorated with mandarin duck, seashell, and aged, seaweed covered turtle motifs symbolizing marital harmony and longevity in raden (mother-of-pearl inlay), kanagai (inlaid metal), and maki-e. The artist, Nagata Yūji, was a maki-e artist active in the first half of the eighteenth century who created works that expressed his admiration for Ogata Kōrin. (Paragon or Puzzle?
