These cylindrical bowls’ sides open slightly outward toward the mouth. A single stripe circles the sides, and the bottom has been folded flat and a foot applied. Bowls of this shape are called zutsu and are thought to be modeled on metal vessels. They were used, like chatsu, to serve side dishes at temples but are now used at very formal tea gatherings such as those that are part of Buddhist memorial services.(Paragon or Puzzle?
