White stripes cross the red and green bands of the fabric. The surihaku technique, in which designs are applied in paste using stencils and gold leaf impressed on it, was used to create a kanzesui design of gentle oblong whirlpools. Above that base pattern, seaweed, and snail, abalone, scallop, and bivalve shells have been exquisitely embroidered in red, white, yellow, purple, blue, and pale blue. Today almost all of the gold leaf of the base pattern has worn off, but the chic color scheme used for the bands and stripes and the left and right placement of the embroidery of seaweed and shells are more then enough to create a fascinating design.
