These cylindrical cups have a very slightly plump bodies and slim slightly towards the mouth rim and base. Their bases have a janome (snake-eye) foot with the unglazed clay body exposed on the bottom surface. These cups are extremely thinly potted and light in weight. The sides are encircled by seven lines in overglaze red, creating stripes. Cups of this sort were used to serve aemono (salads with sesame seed dressing) and sunomono (vinegared foods). They were usually provided in sets of ten or twenty. (Paragon or Puzzle? Your Own Perspectives on Works in the Suntory Museum of Art Collection, 2024)
