The furidashi sweet server was used with boxed sets of tea utensils. Small sweets such as amanattō (sweetened soybeans coated in sugar) and kompeitō (small colored sugar candies) were placed in it and it was shaken to serve them (furidashi). Originally small vessels with narrow necks were repurposed as sweet servers, but specialized vessels were also produced.
