The bowl is shaped like a sandbar(suhama). On the wide arching handle, small circular ceramic studs are attached at even intervals. Half of the bowl is coated with green Oribe graze. On the other half, floral and geometric patterns are painted on a reddish ground, using an iron pigment and white graze. This particular design of dividing the surface into two is called katami-gawari. The Oribe graze is noted for its glossy texture, and generally undergoes high-firing. Glaze is applied to half of the bottom surface.
