The body has been faceted on four sides and its thin rim everted. The dark brown glaze that has trailed down from the glaze pooled above the shoulders has produced the vessel’s keshiki or demeanor. Brown glaze has been deliberately applied in an arch shape at the lower part of the body. This distinctive design is based on the preferences of Kanamori Sōwa, a seventeenth-century tea master who provided guidance for Ninsei’s Omurogama kiln. (Paragon or Puzzle?
