This almost hemispherical bowl was slip cast and a thin translucent glaze applied to its white ground. A rust-colored glaze has been applied to the rim, which takes the form of five petals. A five-petaled flower at the center of the interior is surrounded by pomegranates, plums, and peonies, while on the exterior are peonies and grapevine trellis; all are painted in black outlines and red, yellow, green, and blue. This bowl is a classic example of the Kakiemon style, with bright, pure colors on the white nigoshi-de porcelain ground and effective use of reserved white space. A similar example (an Important Cultural Property) is in the collection of the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum.
