This tea bowl has a wide misshapen mouth. The body has horizontal grooves which were made in the course of shaping. The side is nearly vertical, but widens slightly near the mouth. The low foot was carved after being removed from the wheel. Except for the outside bottom, the entire surface is covered with a glossy, black, glaze, generally referred to as hikidashi-guro. The large size and the free form represent Mino ware, known for its strong individual characteristics.
