This bowl is footed and octagonally shaped, with an upward-curving rim to which iron glaze has been applied. On the inside, framed in a band of deep, dark blue, is painted a pair of quails amidst millet plants. This motif was popular in Europe, and was frequently used on export Imari ware. The interior walls are marked off into eight sections and decorated with a shippo-tsunagi (interlocking circles) pattern overlaid with green glaze. On the underside of the bowl are arabesque patterns painted in blue underglaze. The footed is also decorated, with a stylized lightning design in blue running around the outside and a wave motif painted in purple at three points on the interior. In the center of the foot is the character "fuku" inscribed in cobalt blue underglaze; one spur mark remains.
