A kanmuridana, also called a kanmurishoku, was originally a shelf on which to place a headdress, but it later came to be used as an incense burner stand. This type of shelving unit or stand was ranked highly, and it was proper, it is said, to place a headdress-shaped incense burner on it. This work is said to have been treasured by Matsudaira Fumai, a daimyo tea master from the latter half of the Edo period. Its delicate construction is arresting, with silver fittings and chrysanthemum and overlapping circle openwork inserted on the sides.(Paragon or Puzzle?
