A leader in the Japanese business world, Hara Yasusaburo (1884-1982), chairman of Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd., was also a devoted collector of ukiyo-e. This exhibition will focus on two masterpieces from his collection, Hiroshige’s One Hundred Famous Views of Edo and Famous Views of the Sixty-odd Provinces. These two series, being exhibited in their entirety for the first time, are both from the rare first state and are in a superb state of preservation. In addition to those works, rarely to be seen in Japan or overseas, the exhibition also includes ukiyo-e of famous places and other works by Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Kuniyoshi.
