Celebrate Christmas at Suntory Hall
Bach Collegium Japan performs Messiah
December 24, 2021
With Paid Live Stream and On Demand

Suntory Hall is pleased to present Handel’s seasonal masterpiece, Messiah, on Christmas Eve, performed by the internationally renowned baroque orchestra and chorus, Bach Collegium Japan (BCJ) directed by Masaaki Suzuki. Their Messiah at Christmas has become a popular annual event at Suntory Hall, and this year it celebrates its 20th anniversary. The lineup of four soloists features two regular BCJ collaborators from the U.K., acclaimed soprano Rachel Nicholls and bass Benjamin Bevan, and two accomplished singers from Japan, alto (mezzo-soprano) Ayako Yukawa and tenor Satoshi Nishimura.
Although BCJ are widely known as Bach specialists, they are also very familiar with the music of Bach’s contemporary George Frideric Handel. Indeed, BCJ’s production of Handel’s opera Rinaldo, held in Tokyo last November (conducted by Masato Suzuki), received high acclaim, and was recently awarded the Sagawa Yoshio Music Award.
As in last year, BCJ’s performance of Messiah at Suntory Hall will be streamed (Paid Live Stream and On Demand), available to an international audience.
For those who want to make this a special Christmas occasion, a dinner course and concert package is also available in collaboration with The Hotel Okura Tokyo.
