The largest coastal city in the state of Washington, Seattle has profound ties of friendship with Japan. The Seattle Art Museum was founded in 1933 by geologist and art collector Richard E. Fuller (1897-1976) and enjoys a collection encompassing Western art, Asian art, and African art objects from countries throughout the world.
The present exhibition introduces about 100 exceptional works of art carefully selected from the Japanese and Asian collections that the Seattle Art Museum has cultivated over the course of close to 80 years. This is the first time that the Seattle Art Museum collection, which ranks among the top in North America, will be presented together outside of the United States and as such offers us a precious and unparalleled opportunity. We hope that you will enjoy this parade of masterpieces from a host of periods and genres, as they appear like jewels emerging from a treasure chest in close succession.
