Emile Gallé (1846-1904) created his own world, lyrically, fantastically, symbolically. This exhibition will address the sources of the artistry he exercised in his masterworks in glass, ceramics, and furniture in terms of five key dimensions, including his love for France, other lands and botany as well as biology and literature. The exhibition will introduce the museum´s Gallé collection along with works never before displayed in Japan. With special cooperation from the Musée d´Orsay, it will also present from its collection, including sketches that demonstrate his acute powers of observation and works in glass being exhibited in Japan for the first time.
